Pick-Your-Own Farms along the Albany Post Road

This is harvest time and, here, at the Borland House, we are enjoying the fresh produce all around us.  Within a 10-minute drive, guests can meander up the historic Albany Post Road to Hodgson’s Farm for apples, pumpkins, and berries.  Then, enjoy a well-needed rest from the strenuous efforts of picking  by doing a tasting at Tuthill Spirits, a local distillery.  Visiting Tuthill felt like stepping back to the days of prohibition!  Continue another couple of miles and you will happen upon a brand new winery, Robibero.  This beautiful winery boasts a terrace overlooking the vineyards where guests can enjoy a glass of Robibero’s wine.  From here you can hike at Minnewaska State Park and check out the incredible vistas of fall foliage.

However, the best way to enjoy the sights and tastes of the Hudson Valley is to come between Sunday and Friday.  The week-end crowds will have headed back home and you will discover the serene beauty of the region at its peak.  (Besides, accommodations are less expensive during the week).  The harvest time extends well into November, so you’ve got plenty of time to plan a visit!
