Montgomery’s Richard’s Ice Cream Celebrates 50 Years
On Sunday, July 31 we stepped back in time to 1961. Richard’s Dairy Shed, a Montgomery tradition, celebrated its 50th anniversary with an old-fashioned ice-cream social. And, it was FREE! Kids of all ages, from one month to 80+ strolled around with ice-cream mustaches dripping from their faces. We all indulged in hot-dogs, hamburgers, and cheered during the ice-cream-eating contests.
The Palumbo family, with their daughter Tracy as the current owner, has operated Richard’s Dairy Shed for half a century. Every April we know it’s spring when the line starts forming at Richard’s and doesn’t end until they close in October! Their “small” cones are huge. Their home-made ice-cream is incredible. Bill’s favorite is their black raspberry. I prefer the Oreo cookie with chocolate sprinkles. We often skip dinner and just head to Richard’s during the summer. But, one of the best things about Richard’s is Tracy. She brightens our day with her beautiful smile and endless energy.
